How to Spend a Perfect Summer Day in Kernville

Are you ready for the best summer day ever? Come visit Kernville, California in July for an adventure you’ll never forget! Start your day in the high country with a morning walk on the Trail of 100 Giants in the Sequoia National Forest. This magical forest is home to some of the tallest trees you’ll ever see. Walking among these giants feels like stepping into another world. The air is fresh, the shade is cool, and you can even spot wildlife along the way. It’s about an hour drive from Kernville on the scenic, riverside route of Mountain Highway 99. It’ll have you ready for the day ahead!

On your way back to Kernville, make a stop at Johnsondale Bridge for a stunning vista. The bridge offers a perfect spot to take in the gorgeous river. After enjoying the view, head over to McNally’s Lodge Hamburger Stand for a delicious lunch. Their burgers are legendary, and there’s nothing better than a tasty meal after a morning of exploring. You’ll be recharged and ready for more fun!

Once you’re back in Kernville, get ready for some excitement with a tubing trip down the Kern River. Start at the KR3 SCE Power Station launch site. Float on your tubes (of course, wearing life vests!) to take out at the Bridge at Riverside Park in Kernville. Make sure to park a car near the bridge to get home easily after your tubing adventure. Just imagine floating along, feeling the cool water splash against you … and soaking up the warm sun. It’s the perfect way to end your day with fun and laughter. Kernville has it all – excitement, nature, and good times. Come visit and make this summer the best one yet!

 

Insider Tips:

Trail of 100 Giants – $12 cash for parking, public restrooms at parking lot, easy paved walk, great for leashed dogs, strollers, wheelchairs & slow walkers. Shady seating & fun, informative signage along the way.

Johnsondale Bridge – free parking with public restrooms. Cross the bridge & go down the stairs for the start of a beautiful riverside trail. Great for older kids & dogs on leash. Be aware there are some uneven spots on the trail and some inclines/declines.

McNally’s Lodge Hamburger Stand – try their shakes!  They also serve ‘Impossible Burgers’ as a veggie option. Head to the back of the Lodge to walk over the river on their cool suspension bridge!

Floating on Kern River – ALWAYS wear a personal flotation device, the river has wild moments! It’s very sunny on the water – wear a hat & lots of sunscreen. Water shoes are highly recommended.
