If you want to feel even cooler, drive up Sherman Pass Road to the Upper Cannell Meadow Trail. From Kernville, head north on Mountain Highway 99, then turn right onto Sherman Pass Road and climb higher into the mountains until you reach the Cannell Meadow Trailhead near Big Meadow. Up here, you’ll find high-altitude air, wildflowers, shady forests, and quiet views. It’s perfect for escaping the heat! And if you want to chill off after your hike, stop by the popular swimming hole next to Johnsondale Bridge on your way back to Kernville.
