Canebrake Ecological Reserve Hike

Join guide Bob Barnes for a day hike in the Canebrake Ecological Reserve. Hike the upper end of the South Fork Kern River Valley. Surrounded by exquisite scenery including 292,431 acres of Congressionally designated wilderness areas (Domeland, Kiavah, Owens Peak)

This approximately 7,200 acre property includes the following units: Bloomfield Ranch, Canebrake Creek, Cap Canyon, and Scodie Ranch.

Habitat types include valley foothill riparian, valley foothill hardwood-conifer/blue oak-digger pine, sagebrush, Joshua tree, riverine, lacustrine, fresh emergent wetland, wet meadow, pasture, and cropland.

Hundreds of bird species, as well as numerous mammal, reptile, and butterfly species. Fish species include western suckers, hardhead, and Sacramento squawfish.

Please dress according to the day’s forecasted weather, comfortable shoes, and a backpack with water and snacks. Binoculars and cameras are recommended for viewing wildlife.

FREE family-friendly event with a very flat trail. About a 35-minute drive from Kernville

Engineer’s Point near the Auxiliary Dam over Lake Isabella

Organized by the Kern River Valley Chamber of Commerce and fueled by generous community donations, this spectacular event promises an unforgettable evening!

Mark your calendar for the brilliant show over Lake Isabella. The awe-inspiring display will paint the night skies with vibrant colors and dazzling patterns.

Please note that the start time is subject to change due to safety precautions regarding wind conditions. Remember to arrive early to secure the best viewing spot along the edges of Lake Isabella. Don’t forget to bring your blankets/lawn chairs!
